This has taken a near month to complete – it’s the first recorded with my new Les Paul standard – Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. A new song – lots of keys in here, that’d have something to do with my new keystation – no longer need I suffer an 1987 casio keyboard through a dodgy Yamaha MIDI-USB lead that required me to sellotape several wires together and offer a prayer before I could get connectivity. I’m reading a fantastic book at the moment, “The Painted Man” – it’s a wonderful fantasy story of a young boy in a world where demons haunt humanity each and every night, and only magic, drawn y the name of “wards”, can protect people from the strange creatures that hunt them. It’s a really enjoyable [...] It’s a fact that I recorded and wrote half of this, got frustrated with various technical problems in production, fathomed out solutions for those by recording “The Silence”, then came back to this with a new gusto and managed to pin it down. The problem I was having were down to GarageBand’s rather crap way [...] Cover time. This was an absolute bugger to get down, but as all I have of the original is a very ropey, very poor quality mp3 of a live performance – I was very determined. I upgraded to GarageBand ‘09 this weekend, and it’s a nice incremental improvement. The guitar modelling technology that’s the big new feature is quite neat, though I whilst I found a lot more “reallistic” valve amp sounds using it, i couldn’t quite generate a sound that mixed well into a song, at least, not as [...] This took a few weeks to finish and dozens of seperate sessions, from a few basic sounds I’d been playing with – suffice to say it turned out very differently to what i had in mind, and incorporates several different moods, themes and intensions – so arguably, it sounds a little bit confused, but the [...] New year, new song, new album. So, 2008 is coming to and end. I’ve finished both Inversions and now, Many Ways To Be. I’m really pleased with both, and they show a progression in style and content I think – my playing is even getting a little better, which is nice. Cover time – everyone should know where their weaknesses, and their strengths lie – when it comes to my guitar skills, speed is not mine – so in choosing this song as the cover to include in “Many Ways To Be”, i set myself something of a challenge – much of this under-rated album track [...] I won’t explain the title, but I stumbled upon the word, and this latest recording on which i was working, seemed to fit the definition well. Enjoy. Life is just relentless. Funny how the music so often comes out reflecting exactly how each and every day feels at that moment. It’s been nearly 2 months since I managed to finish anything new. A combination of a very busy time at work, home, and finishing off my Masters degree (now complete, hooray!). This is my latest song, written and recorded on Sunday 21st of September. Came together in a couple of hours on a wet, miserable, crap saturday afternoon, that’s supposedly at the tail end of summer, but it might as well be deep mid-winter the way the weather is going. I put this first up last week, but havn’t actually had the time to put in an entry for it. Violently Blue [Audio clip: view full post to listen] New Song. New Album. New Artwork. Enjoy. I wanted to finish off “Inversions” with a Cover (as each of collection so far, has been made out of 9 original tracks and 1 cover) – but I’d been looking for ages for the right song, that I put my own twist on, that I could actually learn and play, and that fitted in [...] Been working on this latest one for about a week now – had to really rush to finish it today, wanted it finished before I leave for Holiday. Genuinely pleased with the result, has a nice fat sound overall – the solo is probably the clearest sign that I was running out of time at [...] This is really, really weird. I suspect most people who hear this are going to hate it. The underlying rythmn track is one of the earliest riff’s I ever wrote (we’re talking 13/14 years old I guess) – and it was quite heavy, my main influences at that tender age being stuff like Metallica and [...] I had a flurry in May, sometimes putting together 2 tracks a week, but my latest effort has taken 3 weeks just on it’s own to really come together. Finally nailed it yesterday as well – it’s a bit of an epic, both in terms of duration, and content I think – so I’m really [...] There’s inadvertently been a bit of an Ian M. Banks obsession taking route in my current music labelling – I’m currently reading “The Player Of Games” by Banks (superb bloody book by the way) for about the fourth time in total – and really enjoying it – it’s definitely one of my favourite all time [...] The hint here is in the title – I wanted to try and do something to emulate one of my all time favourite Bands particuarly fantastic style – that of Dream Theater. This is my tribute to them. If your familiar with Dream Theater, you’ll surely recognise the influence. Anyway, this is otherwise quite different [...] A very quick song this one, a bit of an experiment for me, but the intention was something gentle akin to “Walking Home”. Nothing spectacuarly original about it, but it’s pleasant I think. Very simple, and thus a very simple title. |

it’s taking a while to get it setup properly, and get it sounding as I would prefer – still not quite on par with my vintage, though it’s sure nicer to play!
