Edge Of The World

New year, new song, new album.

Title track took its inspiration from the picture, which I found first whilst skimming around - and gave me a cover and a title.

I think it has a good vibe, and an interesting melody particuarly the bridge to chorus.

Inexplicable

So, 2008 is coming to and end.   I’ve finished both Inversions and now, Many Ways To Be.  I’m really pleased with both, and they show a progression in style and content I think - my playing is even getting a little better, which is nice.

So here is my last track for Many…., Inexplicable.  I wanted to finish the track with something mirroring the title and first track I wrote for this set - starting with the keys, and then bringing in a huge cacophony of harmonies and overlays.  I think it ends the whole mood of the 10 songs well, enjoy.

Deja Vu

Cover time - everyone should know where their weaknesses, and their strengths lie - when it comes to my guitar skills, speed is not mine - so in choosing this song as the cover to include in “Many Ways To Be”, i set myself something of a challenge - much of this under-rated album track from Maiden’s “Somewhere in Time” is a real pig to play, and if anything, I seemed to up the tempo a little bit by accident.

Synaesthesia

I won’t explain the title, but I stumbled upon the word, and this latest recording on which i was working, seemed to fit the definition well.  Enjoy.

Relentless

Life is just relentless.   Funny how the music so often comes out reflecting exactly how each and every day feels at that moment.

It’s been nearly 2 months since I managed to finish anything new.  A combination of a very busy time at work, home, and finishing off my Masters degree (now complete, hooray!).

Then when I did get something started, GarageBand decided to screw everything up for me and delete half the tracks I’d created when I thought I was 90% done - so I left things for a couple more weeks, and today managed to finish it off.  I’m still a little frustrated, as I had some good ideas down and recorded, lost them, can’t remember them now, and time machine also let me down, so no backup’s, nothing - so some of this was 2nd efforts, and whilst fine, I wish I could remember/recover what I lost, because I think it was great, perhaps better.

Infinity Rising

This is my latest song, written and recorded on Sunday 21st of September.

I started off with something quite different in mind, but once I got going, it kinda took on a life of its own.   It has a nice time-change mid-way through which takes it in a slightly different direction, and as a song of two-halves, I definitely prefer the latter - thought overall, combined, it has a nice spaced-out feel to it I think.  As usual, the track name came last, and that spaced out sound in the middle, is what helped me come up with it.

This forms track 5 of my latest collection, “Many Ways To Be”.

Rollercoaster

Came together in a couple of hours on a wet, miserable, crap saturday afternoon, that’s supposedly at the tail end of summer, but it might as well be deep mid-winter the way the weather is going.

So I put this together, and it’s a helluva lot more upbeat than I was actually feeling, which is odd - also very short, which is unusual, but a nice change probably, from me:

I put this first up last week, but havn’t actually had the time to put in an entry for it.

This started as one song, but then grew naturally into 2.  So it’s split up, but in “Many Ways To Be” this is Track 2 and 3, and will be gapless - i.e. 3 will follow immediately after 2 and will appear to be one seemless track.  There’s clearly a common musical element, but both have very different feel and sound.  Violently Blue has received very positive feedback on iCompositions, particularly the maiden-esque middle 8.
