New meandering on ye old guitar. Been a while, so I was a little rusty, but turned out well I think. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Something new. Reflective. ish. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Track from 2 from Tortured Soul. A very melodic, thumping beat I think. Some nice changes, and an enjoyable middle-break. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] A limbering up excercise. A cover I never thought I’d be able to pull off. It was hard work, and yeah I skipped the solo and the groovy ending. But it got my fingers moving [Audio clip: view full post to listen] So ok, I failed in my abstinence. But I just had a tune in my head, and it didn’t take more than a few hours to push it out. I think the track evokes some kind of angst, and is almost certainly in some way related to the crazy time I’m having at work at [...] A rather productive weekend in the middle of February. Hard to believe actually, as I didn’t land into Stansted until midnight Friday, and didn’t make home until after 2am. So on Saturday I completed “Vapours and Dust” which had been hanging around in GarageBand since last weekend. Then today, inspired into action to [...] Into the home run now on “Distant Journey”. Time Bleeds was a little heavy, and perhaps a little subdued, so I wanted something a bit more upbeat – that said, I started with something inspired by “Someone Else” by Queensryche, but the thing took on it’s own life pretty quickly, and you’d be hard [...] Something new – got quite heavy in the middle this, though in the end, I’m very pleased with it. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Much snow in this part of the world, gave me time in my office at home, even with putting in a decent days work first – managed a quick song (hopefully, don’t think it sounds like it was put together quickly at all). [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Enjoy. New Years day was a GarageBand fest – taken me most of Christmas to summon up the mental energy to start writing something again. Anyways, quite like this: [Audio clip: view full post to listen] A complete cacophony of guitar tracks, nearly burnt my poor old iMac out recording the thing It’s taken a while for me to post this – been busy as hell. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Enjoy. Second track from “Distant Journey” and I absolutely loved writing, recording and listening back to this one – sometimes the stuff just seems to flow, you don’t even have to even try very hard – the recording seemed to work pretty much off first bat, the mix was pretty much “as is” and the whole [...] I’ve made a start on my new collection. This was going to be the title track, but by the time I’d finished recording, I’d kind of gone off the title – seemed a little, well, contrived – regardless, I’ve left the track name but the collection’s entitled “Distant Journey”. It has a good opener sound [...] Absolutely, by far, my favourite Queen song. A total, and utter classic. Brilliant. Would never be the same without Freddie’s Lyrics, but still, I wanted a warm up before I started a new collection and this was just itching to be done. So, after a much enjoyed summer hiatus, here’s my latest track. [Audio clip: view [...] “Edge Of The World” has been my most difficult production to date. Not much of it has felt fun, I really don’t know why – though I’ve still enjoyed and been quite proud of some of the end result, I’ve had to force production, if that makes any sense – their’s little that’s coming naturally. I’ve [...] [Audio clip: view full post to listen] This has taken a near month to complete – it’s the first recorded with my new Les Paul standard – it’s taking a while to get it setup properly, and get it sounding as I would prefer – still not quite on par with my vintage, though it’s sure nicer to play! [Audio clip: view full [...] I’m reading a fantastic book at the moment, “The Painted Man” – it’s a wonderful fantasy story of a young boy in a world where demons haunt humanity each and every night, and only magic, drawn y the name of “wards”, can protect people from the strange creatures that hunt them. It’s a really enjoyable [...] It’s a fact that I recorded and wrote half of this, got frustrated with various technical problems in production, fathomed out solutions for those by recording “The Silence”, then came back to this with a new gusto and managed to pin it down. The problem I was having were down to GarageBand’s rather crap way [...] Cover time. This was an absolute bugger to get down, but as all I have of the original is a very ropey, very poor quality mp3 of a live performance – I was very determined. The various changes in tempo made it an absolute pig to do competently however, and their are at least two “glitches” [...] I upgraded to GarageBand ’09 this weekend, and it’s a nice incremental improvement. The guitar modelling technology that’s the big new feature is quite neat, though I whilst I found a lot more “reallistic” valve amp sounds using it, i couldn’t quite generate a sound that mixed well into a song, at least, not as [...] This took a few weeks to finish and dozens of seperate sessions, from a few basic sounds I’d been playing with – suffice to say it turned out very differently to what i had in mind, and incorporates several different moods, themes and intensions – so arguably, it sounds a little bit confused, but the [...] New year, new song, new album. Title track took its inspiration from the picture, which I found first whilst skimming around – and gave me a cover and a title. I think it has a good vibe, and an interesting melody particuarly the bridge to chorus. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] So, 2008 is coming to and end. I’ve finished both Inversions and now, Many Ways To Be. I’m really pleased with both, and they show a progression in style and content I think – my playing is even getting a little better, which is nice. So here is my last track for Many…., Inexplicable. I wanted [...] Cover time – everyone should know where their weaknesses, and their strengths lie – when it comes to my guitar skills, speed is not mine – so in choosing this song as the cover to include in “Many Ways To Be”, i set myself something of a challenge – much of this under-rated album track [...] |
