<itunes:summary>So ok, I failed in my abstinence. nbsp; But I just had a tune in my head, and it didn't take more than a few hours to push it out. I think the track evokes some kind of angst, and is almost certainly in some way related to the crazy time I'm having at work at the moment - "all over the place" would sum it up well I think.

Anyways, I've given this the title "Tortured Soul" and will name the new collection the same. nbsp;Enjoy.

<itunes:summary>A rather productive weekend in the middle of February. Hard to believe actually, as I didn't land into Stansted until midnight Friday, and didn't make home until after 2am. So on Saturday I completed "Vapours and Dust" which had been hanging around in GarageBand since last weekend.

Then today, inspired into action to complete "Distant Journey", I wrote and recorded "Goodnight", which is a nice up-beat end to the collection - hope you enjoy.

Vapours and Dust
[audio:http://public.me.com/ix/morkjturner/My%20Music/Distant%20Journey/09%20Vapours%20and%20Dust.mp3#124;titles=Vapours and Dust#124;authors=Mark J Turner]

Goodnight

And that, as they say, is it. Distant Journey has taken around 5 months, which isn't too bad given I've a full time (and then some) job, three kids, a wife, 3 cats, a dog, half a dozen tropical fish, and nothing like a social life. That said, its getting hard to fit it all in, so I'm deliberately taking some time out for a while now. I have a 2 week holiday planned for the beginning of June, and if I can stay away, I'm going to refrain from starting anything new until then.

<itunes:summary>Second track from "Distant Journey" and I absolutely loved writing, recording and listening back to this one - sometimes the stuff just seems to flow, you don't even have to even try very hard - the recording seemed to work pretty much off first bat, the mix was pretty much "as is" and the whole thing has absolutely the kind of feeling I was aiming for - full of energy, thrust and yet somehow a little intriguing - particularly the drum mix worked really well, I liked the variety in the beats and it made the whole thing come together really well. nbsp;Enjoy.

<itunes:summary>It's a fact that I recorded and wrote half of this, got frustrated with various technical problems in production, fathomed out solutions for those by recording "The Silence", then came back to this with a new gusto and managed to pin it down.nbsp; The problem I was having were down to GarageBand's rather crap way of dealing with tempo changes and the poor way the interface can lead to the entire track being damaged as you try to adjust different tempos for different sections.

Anywyays, enough techno-babble - as it is, this worked out rather well, I really enjoy it:

<itunes:summary>Cover time. This was an absolute bugger to get down, but as all I have of the original is a very ropey, very poor quality mp3 of a live performance - I was very determined.

The various changes in tempo made it an absolute pig to do competently however, and their are at least two "glitches" which I just can't iron out - but I decided it was still worth finishing, and it's a perfect cover for my collection of 10.

The original was written and performed by "Gamma Ray", a German metal band in the early 90's (pre-cursor to Helloween).

Enjoy.

<itunes:summary>I upgraded to GarageBand '09 this weekend, and it's a nice incremental improvement.nbsp; The guitar modelling technology that's the big new feature is quite neat, though I whilst I found a lot more "reallistic" valve amp sounds using it, i couldn't quite generate a sound that mixed well into a song, at least, not as well as the setting's I've been using these past few years in GarageBand '07 and '08.

So, a few of the sounds inspired some riffing, and whilst I ended up mixing everything using my normal production settings, this song was the result.nbsp;nbsp; Only difference is the mini-solo toward the end which used the Guitar modelling.nbsp; Enjoy.

New year, new song, new album.

Title track took its inspiration from the picture, which I found first whilst skimming around – and gave me a cover and a title.

I think it has a good vibe, and an interesting melody particuarly the bridge to chorus.

So here is my last track for Many...., Inexplicable.nbsp; I wanted to finish the track with something mirroring the title and first track I wrote for this set - starting with the keys, and then bringing in a huge cacophony of harmonies and overlays.nbsp; I think it ends the whole mood of the 10 songs well, enjoy.

<itunes:summary>Cover time - everyone should know where their weaknesses, and their strengths lie - when it comes to my guitar skills, speed is not mine - so in choosing this song as the cover to include in "Many Ways To Be", i set myself something of a challenge - much of this under-rated album track from Maiden's "Somewhere in Time" is a real pig to play, and if anything, I seemed to up the tempo a little bit by accident.
